Bushwalkers rescued from national park - Heathcote Sunday, 11 August 2013 03:48:07 AM A group of nine people have been rescued from bushland in Heathcote National Park overnight. About 5.30pm (Saturday 10 August 2013), police were called to Heathcote National Park after concerns were raised for a group of bushwalkers, who had not returned at the expected time. Police attached to Sutherland Local Area Command as well as specialist officers from the Police Dog Squad, Police Airwing (PolAir) and the Ambulance Rescue helicopter commenced a coordinated search of bushland a short time later. The group – aged in their 60s - were located about 10pm (Saturday 10 August 2013) and assessed by Ambulance Paramedics. One member of the group suffered a minor knee injury and another had mild hypothermia. Both were treated at the scene. An operation was later carried out, where members of the group were winched from bushland and taken to a nearby oval. Everyone was safely recovered from the location. Meanwhile, police have renewed their appeal to anyone entering the bush – even if for a short walk – to take a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), appropriate clothing, water, and food. Police also advise bushwalkers to register their planned route and supply relevant contact details as well as telling friends and family when you expect to return.
