Busy Weekend: Highlights Below Okay, it was an action-packed weekend. On Friday night, I stopped by the “Blue Jeans” inaguaral ball at Northern Virginia Community College. There were at least 200 people in attendance,of which approximately half were candidates for the recently-vacated Eighth District Congressional seat. On Saturday morning, we had the first of our three town halls. This one was at the Sully Government Center with Delegate Jim LeMunyon (R-Oak Hill). About fifty people attended to discuss issues ranging from K-12 education to mental health. Saturday afternoon, I traveled to Newport News with my family to see my daughter’s field hockey play a tournament at Christopher Newport University. If you haven’t been to CNU, it’s a growing university located in a newly-developed part of Newport News. Meanwhile, my editorial on ethics and “the Virginia Way” was picked up verbatim by the Virginian-Pilot, the daily newspaper for Hampton Roads, and published on Saturday. And the Washington Times did a little investigative reporting into our efforts to secure a high-profile spokeswoman for SB 228, the pet owners’ consumer rights legislation. Of course, the biggest Virginia news item is the special election in the 33rd Senate District which will determine control of the State Senate. We’ll know the answer by Tuesday night, barring yet another recount.
