By Re-Elect Mayor Rhonda Riherd Trautman GLASGOWs ECONOMY: I often get asked what is going on in Glasgow that shows we are growing or recovering from the 2008-09 recession. Our unemployment rate has decreased by half from a high in 2009 of nearly 14%. In addition, employment in our community is up as indicated by the increase in occupational tax revenue generated. Other indicators are also positive. Glasgows economy is growing and it is demonstrated by our data from building permits and other indicators. For example in 2013 as compared to 2014: Residential construction permits increased 600% Residential additions permits increased 18% Commercial construction permits increased 57% Commercial additions increased 16% Multifamily Residential permits increased 200% Building permits increased 21% Electric permits increased 77% Since 2010, we have added over 1500 jobs from Sitel, Fortis, Medcare Phamacy, Akebono, Amneal, Aphena, Integrated Pharmaceuticals, OmniCare, Spantec, Felker Brothers. These include both new industries and expansions of existing ones. We have several new retail, restaurants and service businesses coming to our community including a Holiday Inn Express, Ruler Foods, Joanne Fabrics, Rue-21, Wright Implement to name a few in the last few months. New restaurants, coffee shops, and other retail add to the job opportunities in Glasgow. This is due to private investment and having those investors confident in our local economy. This shows a community on the move in the right direction. Our economy is recovering and looking very positive. But there is still more to be done - during economic downturns and during recovery, we cannot stop looking for more efficient ways to do things, and assure that tax dollars are being spent in the most effective way possible. As mayor, I pledge to the citizens that I will continue to do that. My commitment has and will remain to be for the betterment of everyone in the community. Each citizen deserves the same respect and fairness and I pledge to put community first in every decision as we move Glasgow forward. PLEASE SHARE THIS TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT POSITIVE THINGS GOING ON IN GLASGOW.
