C&W Grief Wall for pregnancy and infant loss awareness Posted on October 15, 2014 photo 2 (2) October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month and today, October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. To raise awareness and support those who have had a perinatal loss, the UMHS Community will have a Grief Wall/Windows specifically for Pregnancy and Infant Loss up in the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital Lobby from Monday, Oct. 13 to Friday, Oct. 24. For those of unfamiliar with a grief wall or grief windows, the project encourages the visual expression of perinatal grief and loss in our Health System community. Patients, families and staff, using crayons and markers on the Mott windows, will have an opportunity to share thoughts, messages, poems, drawings and other expressions of grief, coping and hope. This may be both a personal experience and an experience as a care provider. It is an interactive way to display personal expression of grief and coping with pregnancy and newborn loss, and connect us all to this universal human experience. Of course, it is asked that those who write or draw on the wall please do not use names or nicknames of patients or other identifying information that could disclose the identity of our patients. Also, any inappropriate content will be removed.
