CAPT Bruce Jones, USCG (retired) brought up a great point on a different venue - and that is the affect of the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack on Coast Guard Aviator LT Frank A. Erickson - a man that I firmly believe should be considered the Father of Military Rotary Wing Aviation. He took Igor Sikorskys basic helicopter and perfected many practical military uses (hydraulic hoist, shipboard landings, dipping sonar concepts, etc).
