**CATCH REPORT** New Team Member Adam kirk is continuing his great run of fish at Borwick Fishing lakes. He has sent us his latest report, My recent session resulted in a total of 6 fish, from a 9lb catfish, up to a 21.4 common. I started off on Tuesday after work; Martin and I had planned to have a walk around months ago. I didnt get very far before I saw fish showing. I made a decision to stay the night, and it was a pretty good one as it happens. I finally got set up around 9pm and it wasnt long before the right hand rod came into play. The fight was short and sweet, and soon the fish was ready to net but just as the net hit the water the hook came free. It was 2am Wednesday morning and I was woken up and into a second fish, this time, a 15lb fully scaled beauty. I was off the mark but as 6am came and reality set in, it was time for work. All morning I spent checking my phone to see if Martin had got in the swim he wanted. Then at 10.30 my phone rang and I just knew what was coming. Martin had finally landed his first carp from the big lake. I just had to get back up to that lake and get my rigs back in the water. Finally work was over and I was straight up to Borwick. There was fish everywhere I couldnt go wrong, but how wrong I was, I didnt have a single beep in 2 days. I was gutted and a rethink was required. Friday morning came and it was time I had a move with the lack of action. I decided to fish the swim I landed my PB common from, which also was a bad move, resulting in me wasting another 24 hrs of my session. This wasnt going to plan at all. Saturday morning came and I spent most of it just praying for a carp to give me a little sign. I watched for hours but nothing happened. I reeled the rods in around dinner time and went up to see Martin. Then a fish crashed showing the fish were back on my baited spots. So I quickly rushed back down to my gear, packed it, and was back in the swim I had started in. With the rigs baited I casted all 3 rods at separate parts of the bay to showing fish. Nothing happened for hours, however Jungle soon did what Jungle does best. I was into a fish and I was off the mark again, a mirror named Bolt at 19lb was slipped into the net. Shortly after another screamer on the alarm, the right hand rod nearly ripped from the rest. The fish had managed to burrow in the weed, so a trip out in the boat was in order. Not wanting to cause another hook pull like Tuesday night so I thought I’d bring the fish in hand lining. Not the easiest way but it worked and I had a 21lb common laid on my mat. I was now on the fish and happy. In the early hours of Sunday morning just as the sun came up I was in again. This time a little scaley 13lb’er, only small, but after the session so far an eel would of made me happy. The rods went quiet until around dinner time then the right hand rod ripped off. I didnt waste any time and I was straight in the boat, but no sooner had I got above the fish it was gone. Later that evening I was woken up by a one toner. That turned out to be a greedy little kitten of 9lb which was a welcome surprise. Monday landed and has got to be the worst day of my angling life. The right hand rod was off again and straight into the weed it ran. I managed to ring Martin, Im in mate ,then I set off in the boat (alone) in pursuit of the unknown. This was the biggest fishing mistake Ive ever made. The fish was massive, and again, I hand lined the fight thinking my arm would move more freely than my 3.5 test curve rod. The fish tore through the beds of weed, and dragged me all over the bay. Then I had it laid flat on its side, it was mine, but that wasnt the case and the fight was far from over. The fight lasted around 15 minutes and 3 times I had it to the surface ready to net. My adrenaline was through the roof. The third and final time I had the fish on the surface I reached for the net. As I did the fish made a break for it straight for the weed. Within a flash the line went slack and somehow it had spat a size 4 the hook. Devastated was an understatement and didnt even come close to how I was feeling. Sat staring into the bottom of the lake with that empty feeling I was heartbroken. Id lost a fish that was ready to net 3 times. Hours passed and all I could think of was, the one that got away. If only I had waited for Martin to help me in the boat, if only I had taken more time. The more I thought about it the worse it felt. More bad news soon followed that day, when I heard that the fish I lost was last caught between 2-4 years ago weighing 28lb. A fish of at least 28lb, that’s not been caught in all that time, slips up to my rig and I go and lose it. I fished on into Tuesday evening but the one that got away was the last action I had. I learnt a couple of lessons from my session though. 1, Although the weed is thick dont assume its un-fishable, the fish love the stuff. 2, If it’s a two man job, dont be a hero, I wouldnt wish the feeling I had on Monday on anybody. 3, Dont rush the fight you will come off the loser on day like I did. Thanks for reading Catch more fish Adam A real heart on the sleeve account Adam, thanks for sharing! **Please make sure if your fishery allows a boat you use a life-jacket and act responsibly at all times, no fish is worth your life**
