CDC Questions Cllr. Sherman’s Oration Liberia’s main opposition party, the Congress For Democratic Change (CDC) has differed with the oration made by Unity Party (UP) Chairman, Counselor Varney Sherman, leaving out what it calls nepotism that is reportedly rampant in the government. Serving as Orator for Liberia’s 166th Independence celebration in Tubmanbury, Bomi County, Cllr. Sherman lamented on several national issues ranging from corruption, economic stability, empowerment of Liberian youths, implementation of the Truth & Reconciliation recommendations, reduction of poverty, inadequate dissemination of national information, among others. Addressing a brief press conference on Saturday, July 27, CDC’s Assistant Secretary General, Samora Wollokollie claimed that nepotism is one of the major challenges confronting the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s led government. According to him, Cllr. Sherman mentioned several national issues that are untimely and reportedly forgot about what the Unity Party (UP) standard bearer spoke against in the past(nepotism). He alleged that several high profile officials are capable of serving as orator, but this government has chosen its senior partisan who rained praises on the Liberian leader. Mr. Wollokollie alleged that nepotism is reportedly contributing to corruption in the public sector. He claimed that several alleged corrupt officials have not been prosecuted for their reported actions due to the cordial relationship with the first family of Liberia. The CDC Assistant Custodian warned the Independence Day Orator to outline critical national issues confronting the Liberian society and its people. He said the platform created to serve as Orator is aimed at informing the government about its achievements and lapses. Mr. Wollokollie expressed the belief that continuous praises will not help the Unity Party (UP) administration fulfill all of its promises made in 2005 and the 2011 presidential and legislative elections.
