CERTIFICATES, MBAKA ET AL We know these things to be true:- 1. That the pre-independence army did not require certificates to enlist. 2. That General Buhari was cleared to contest in 1999 till 2011 and that the same credentials or lack of it that qualified him then qualifies him now. I would rather have an illiterate general whose policies and programmes are still relevant 30 years after - environmental sanitation to mention one than a PhD holder whose thesis we cannot see and whose students we do not know. Whose only published paper is a contribution to five others and who has run Africas largest country aground. 3. It does not take a certificate to run a successful enterprise - I am yet to know which university produced Dangote, Folorunsho Alakija, Thomas Okoya, Ekene Dili Chukwu, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mike Zuckerberg, Warren Buffet etc. All these men have run global enterprises that affect lives till date. 4. If Buhari was applying to lecture English language in Unilorin, my alma mater, I would not enroll in his class. If he was teaching military strategy in Sandhurst, I would rush to enroll because he fought in wars and won. 5. So just as you started with his age as if the campaign for Aso Rock is to carry load, you are a failure on arrival with the certificate issue. 6. A partisan army such as the one run by the bloated generals running away from Boko Haram but trying and attempting to kill soldiers they have ill-equipped will never accept that Buhari has or had certificates, in fact, I am shocked they have not concluded that Buhari never enlisted in the army. Its the Baldwin principle of whose bread I eat, his song I sing. B Now, even as a Buharist, I will not campaign on Father Mbaka and I am really constrained to call him father because he lost relevance and credibility long ago. Jesus did say that the same fountain does not issue hot and cold water. Weeks ago, Mbaka received Mrs Jonathan in audience and eulogised this same government. He even told her that anyone who asks them to #BringBackOurGirls is a kidnapper who knows where the girls are. I dont know what he is drinking. But evidently it is not a good concoction. I think the Buhari Campaign organisation should continue its drive on issues and how to rescue our nation from the cannibals who plunder it at all levels. Nigeria belongs to all. If someone rose to the position of General in the army, surely his rank should count for School Certificate. In most parts of the world, experience counts for a lot. In journalism, which is my field, you can go for a MA without having a first degree in most established universities if you have had 10 years of field experience. This campaign by people suffering from selective amnesia has failed. But they need to keep it up, because the new Nigeria under Buhari gives them reason to fear. They should fear the money they received for contracts not executed. They should fear so many other things and yes, they would be brought to book for all those things. But they cant stop Buhari, its an ideal whose time has come!
