CHAINS FOR CHANGE IS MOVING FORWARD....We will have our Prong Bones and other Chains for Change items in a few stores/Boutiques soon!!!! Chains for Change is a program we run offering free martingale collars in exchange for the harsh hardware known as chokes or prongs. We then take those repo d collars and turn them into bracelets, earrings and Leash Holders. One of the many issues facing Pit Bulls today is the common misconception that Pit Bulls can only be trained using heavy handed, correction based methods. In reality, Pit Bulls respond very well to positive reinforcement training. In addition, methods that rely on physical punishment are cruel, outdated and ineffective. Training should be conducted in a manner that encourages animals to enjoy training and become more confident and well-adjusted pets. Effective training is the foundation for an animal’s healthy socialization, capacity for learning and will help prevent behavior problems. Since a wide variety of equipment and tools are commonly used when training pets and in their daily activities, the pet-owning public needs to be aware of the potential problems and dangers some equipment may pose. Specifically, the use of collars and leads that are intended to apply constriction, pressure, pain or force around a dog’s neck (such as ‘choke chains’ and ‘prong collars’) should be avoided. There are many documented cases of injuries to dogs caused by the use of choke/prong collars. These injuries include, but are not limited to, soft tissue damage, eye problems, strangulation (in some cases leading to death), tracheal/esophageal damage and neurological problems. In order to raise awareness and embrace positive training tools and techniques, one of the programs we run is called Chains for Change. We now offer free martingale collars to anyone willing to trade in their choke or prong collars. For Shelter dogs the image and change starts there! Adopters look at tools being used on the dogs so make a choice and be the change! Sign up your shelter today for free Martingale collars! TRAINING IS NOT A QUICK FIX SOLUTION IT IS A LIFETIME COMMITMENT
