CHRISTLIKE CHARACTER Read Galatians 5:22-26 THOUGHT OF THE DAY: We live well when we follow Christ in self giving love. The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. - Galatians 5:22-23 I never knew you; go away from me (Matthew 7:23). Why would Jesus say this? The Holy Spirit reminded me that what matters most with God is not so much what we do as who we are. Paul tells us that God has set us apart from the beginning to be like his son (Romans 8:29), the first among many of Gods children. Gods children: Thats who we are, not what we do. Yes, we are called to bear the fruit of joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentkeness, and self-control -- but the list in Galatians begins with LOVE. Becoming like Christ is the foundation for developing the other virtues and living out Gods love in our actions. When we commit ourselves to allow the Holy Spirit to shape Christlike character in us, we can be assured that at the end of our lives we will be welcomed. We will hear our Lord say, Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world (Matthew 25:34). PRAYER: Dear loving God, help us to open our hearts to the love you offer us so that we may become true brothers and sisters of Christ, in whose name we pray. AMEN DEW January 2014
