COLD SQUALLY SW CHANGE ON THE CARDS: Good morning. Overnight has seen strong winds in some areas but not to the extent we thought! Good news! Spill over rain (NW) has also affected large parts of the region, especially north of Amberley. Today some much colder air moves in with the chance of hail and snow showers to 500-400m before clearing overnight. Estimated arrival 10am-1pm – Christchurch. Today: Nor-west conditions across the region early with gales force winds and spill over rain. Around midday we expect a fiery SW change to move in bringing a period of icy showers, hail and snow flurries to 500m. Showers and strong cold SW winds will gradually ease overnight. Temperatures will peak in the morning 14-16 before dropping to 8-9 degrees when the SW change hits. Tuesday: Any early showers about the Kaikoura Coast and Banks Peninsula will clear to a mainly fine day. Mostly settled but those northwesterlies will be back later in the afternoon or evening about inland areas. High 14-16 degress. Wednesday: Mostly fine with strong to gale force NW winds about inland areas. Closer to the coast winds won’t be as strong but expect typical gusty conditions. Possible spill over rain about the foothills. High 16-18 degrees. Thursday: Cold SW winds with showers about the coast falling as snow above 600m on Banks Peninsula. Inland areas mostly fine but cool. High 13-15 degrees. • So batten down the hatches. Have a great start to the week. Keep those reports coming in!! - Russ
