COLUMBIA CLUB EXPERIENCES MOMENTS OF TRUTH Any type of machinery or mechanism from time to time needs to be evaluated to insure the best performance possible. The same is true of organizations. Toastmasters International provides all of its member clubs a tool for also making sure each group is meeting the standards believed best for a clubs success. The Columbia Toastmasters Club #4492 recently conducted a Moments of Truth program to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the group. The 20 minute program was led by Area 7 Governor Lorie Kaplan, who also currently serves as their club president. Moments of Truth has been used by countless clubs to sharpen their focus on their most important goal – member service and personal satisfaction. By concentrating on First Impressions, Membership Orientation, Fellowship, Variety and Communication, Program Planning and Meeting Organization, Membership Strength and Achievement Recognition, Moments of Truth ensures that clubs have the information they need to achieve their goals. During his keynote at the recent officer training at Osage Beach, Division Governor Kenny Freeman encouraged all clubs in the Heartland to conduct a Moments of Truth program before September 30, 2014. Many members expressed their enjoyment at taking part in the program that was conducted by group discussion. Teams of three addressed each of the six areas of focus and reported their findings to the general club body at the end of the session. Their results and recommendations will now be evaluated by the clubs executive team for a plan of action for improvements during the next six months. A Moment of Truth is an episode when a prospective member comes in contact with any aspect of the Toastmasters experience and forms an impression of the organization’s quality and service. Is your club using these episodes to strengthen and improve itself? Does everyone in your club know all six Moments of Truth? Could you use a refresher? You’re in luck, because Moments of Truth is now available for free! You can download the manual as well as the PowerPoint show, handouts and chart. Use the materials to put on a Moments of Truth presentation for your club, or review them to help your club maximize each moment’s effectiveness. Chartered in 1982 the Columbia Toastmasters Club serves the Columbia Missouri area by providing opportunities to men, women and children for improvement in communication and leadership skills. This is the second year in a row that the club has been honored by Toastmasters International as a Select Distinguished Club. Weekly meetings are held at 5:45 pm each Tuesday evening at St. Luke United Methodist Church (204 E. Ash Street) in Columbia Missouri. Club meetings are open to the public and guest are always welcome. The Heartland Division Council congratulates members of the Columbia Toastmasters Club for their 2013-2014 achievements and wishes them continued success in all their endeavors
