COMIC CHALLENGE TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH I am proud to take up - TopicsExpress

COMIC CHALLENGE TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH I am proud to take up the COMIC CHALLENGE to support mental health, started by the New York Association of School Psychologists and made to me by my colleague Eric Rossen. We have all been shocked by the tragic loss of Robin Williams. Yet we do not need to allow his death to be without meaning. Therefore, NYASP launched the COMIC CHALLENGE and NASP is on board. This is meant to use humor to help keep the conversation about mental health alive and flowing. We need to break down the barriers and remove the stigma. The challenge is easy. Record yourself sharing one of your favorite jokes, then share one mental health fact. So here is my joke: What do you call an illegally parked frog? TOAD. Can you see the tears behind the laughter . . . Reach out for help or help others reach out for help. Now here is my mental health fact: According to the CDC, nationwide, 8.0% of high school students attempt suicide one or more times in a year but less than 3% receive medical attention. Translated, for every 3 adolescents who attempt suicide, 1 goes to the hospital and 2 go to school. Educators need to know the signs of suicide and how to refer students for help. So now I call upon @[100001717412301:Melissa Reeves], @[1064355963:Samuel Joseph] @[614821685:Susan Gorin], @[63212265:Lisa Kelly-Vance], and @[1376236827:Kathleen Minke] to take the Comic Challenge. Post your video to Facebook or other social media sites. Good luck! #comicchallenge #nasp #robinwilliams Thanks @[100001381549625:John Kelly]
