COMMON INJURIES IN YOGA Starting a new yoga class or adding new postures to an existing routine sensibly can prevent problems with common injuries experienced by yoga practitioners. Common injuries include strains, dislocations, disk and back problems, sciatic nerve damage, pulled hamstring, over used tendons and ligaments that lead to tendonitis or bursitis, hyperextension which places additional stress on stabilizing ligaments and tendons and so on. Most injuries in yoga develop gradually over time of consistent over stretching and misalignment. It is important to be able to identify symptoms that may lead to injury. Muscle soreness is a common problem for beginners or when new postures are introduced to an existing yoga routine. It normally appears 12 to 24 hours following the workout and usually happens to students who start a yoga program that is to strenuous for their physical condition or force themselves into the poses. There is theory that this discomfort is due to a chemical change in the muscles and microscopic tears in the muscles and connective tissue. Most of this injuries can be prevented simple by doing your yoga practice in a cautious manner.
