CPIs Jan Akrosh Rally Draws Large Crowd in Patna Patna: Hoping to form a viable third front to take on political juggernauts like Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders, at the partys Jan Akrosh rally in Patna on Friday, supported Chief Minister Nitish Kumars demand of special status for Bihar saying without it, it was extremely difficult to pull the state from its economic abyss. While the CPI has made it abundantly clear to keep Lalu Prasad Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) out of this so-called third front, it has been sending out feelers to Nitish Kumar who also seems to have run out of political friends after kicking out BJP from the NDA alliance. Speaking at a massive crowd at Patnas Gandhi Maidan, former CBI national general secretary A. B. Bardhan said that the Chief Ministers demand for special status was completely justified and his party, along with other leftist parties, would be willing to lend support to any party that was committed to the welfare of the nations poor and downtrodden. CPI national general secretary S. Sudhakar Reddy, in his speech, took aim at the UPA government at the Center saying due to the failed economic policies of the Congress, the country was facing unprecedented rise in the prices of essential items. Thanks to the misguided policies of the Congress, people of India are struggling to make a living. High prices, skyrocketing unemployment rate among the youths, and unparalleled corruption in the history of the nation have made it literally impossible to survive in the country. Thousands of farmers across the nation are committing suicide but the government seems oblivious to everything, Reddy said. He also took Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to task for nominating Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the post of Prime Minister saying the man who was responsible for the killing of thousands of Muslims in Gujarat was now completely in the clutches of fascists who were trying to buy the election by pouring millions of dollars into his campaign. CPI Parliamentary Committee member Gurudas Dasgupta also, without mentioning the name of Nitish Kumar, accused him of failing to bring investment in the state forcing young Biharis to leave the state to search for greener pasture elsewhere. Students, women, minorities, and teachers in Bihar were all the victims of this inept government that needs to be uprooted, Dasgupta
