Cabinet Sub-Committee meets Have finalized report, will table it in next cabinet meeting: Tara ........................................................................................ Jammu, Jan 29: The Cabinet-Sub Committee (CSC) tasked to study the Ganai Committee report on creation of new administrative units met here Wednesday after a lull of five days. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand. Minister for Higher Education Muhammad Akbar Lone, Minister for PHE and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Planning & Development and Labour & Employment Ajay Sadhotra, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah and Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir attended the meeting. According to an official handout, CSC discussed in detail various issues to be taken under consideration while deciding creation of new administrative units in different regions and sub-regions of the state. “The meeting decided that regional imbalances, area discrimination particularly in hilly and tough terrains as well as issues left unattended by the Ganai Committee would be taken under deliberation before finalizing the report,” it said. The government’s move to create new administrative units had brought the coalition partners NC and Congress on loggerheads after the Congress termed the recommendationsof Ganai Committee report as failing to meet the aspirations of all the regions. As the differences between the two alliance partners refused to die down, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took the matter to Congress high command to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, Congress ministers, including CSC head and deputy chief Minister Tara Chand also followed the suit and held meetings with AICC leaders to discuss the issue. According to sources, the latest meeting of CSC was outcome of the recent deliberations at New Delhi. Talking to media persons before the CSC meeting, Tara Chand brushed aside speculations of an impending split of NC-Congress government in the state over differences on new administrative units. “We have almost completed report and are going to finalize the demands for new administrative units totaling around 2500. The report will be tabled in the state cabinet whenever its meets,” he said. CSC member and Higher Education Minister Muhammad Akbar Lone said the cabinet sub-committee discussed in detail various issues and it is going to present the report to the Cabinet meeting on Feb 1. Downplaying the reports of rift within the coalition over the issue, Lone said all the issues as of now have been resolved. He said Omar-led govt has not discriminated with any region and is committed to setup new administrative units as per the demands. Lone also refuted that Omar had threatened to resign and said he had only taken a strong view after cabinet sub-committee had failed to submit its report despite getting series of extensions. “Omar had only said that if the cabinet sub-committee will not submit its report then there was no point in occupying the chair as he had committed to the people that he would form new administrative units,” Lone clarified and said that after CSC submits its report, the final decision would be taken by the cabinet. Omar had announced a Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) to go into the report of the Mushtaq Ganaie Committee which had recommended creation of 700 new administrative units in J&K. #MT
