Call for applications Walter Phillips Gallery Preparatorial Work Study Walter Phillips Gallery Indigenous Preparatorial Work Study Program dates: January 6, 2014 - December 19, 2014 Application deadline: November 1, 2013 The Walter Phillips Gallery Preparatorial Work Study and Indigenous Preparatorial Work Study programs enable participants to engage in hands-on opportunities working alongside the gallery’s curator and preparator. Direct mentorship and support is provided throughout the program to develop the participant’s skills in preventative conservation, art handling, installation techniques, and environmental conditions (including appropriate humidity, temperature, and lighting levels). The work study participant will also have the opportunity to develop expertise in crate building, art packing, and framing of artwork, and will assist in the storage, packing, and unpacking of artworks relating to the Walter Phillips Gallery exhibitions and permanent collection. This work study placement is appropriate for recent graduates of museum studies or studio-based programs, as well as individuals wishing to leave their current work worlds or formal advanced studies for a period of time to gain professional experience and expand and develop their careers and capabilities. This program requires full-time commitment and independent thinking. Please note: Enrolment to the Indigenous Preparatorial Work Study program is limited to individuals of Indigenous descent (status, non-status, Métis, or Inuit).
