Calling the An Phuc Charity Center to schedule a visit, booking a taxi to travel, and buying necessities for the disabilities, this morning, The SGraphy+ Team headed to Hoc Mon, a province of Sai Gon. Contrary to most people’s assumption about disable people, An Phuc people were energetic and hospitable. Smiles seemed never faded away from their faces. They were not only hard working but also talented people. As soon as we came, they started their performance, for us. No one would believe that a visually impaired person could play an organ professionally and others just sang like they were born to sing. They could sing from classical to modern songs. It is still amazement that they could memorize each song’s lyric though some were sightless. Then we gathered some ladies making animal stuffs from glass-beads. We joined them. But once again we would confirm that somehow we were “incompetent”. We enjoyed talking with them. Talking was not just talking anymore. It was like a casual chatting. We discussed a recent “music disaster”, Lệ Rơi. We inquired if they liked rap and could rap because they sang too well. My friend’s rep brought them a great amusement. One of them even had tattoos of a symbol of Buddhism (As we perceived that Buddhism and Buddha’s teachings had been their life ideals). She even advised us that we could use ink and the back of the needle to make it less hurtful to have a tattoo… It was too much for a day. It was more than a simple joke or laughter. It was something unnameable. And let us just be reminded that those unfortunate people are handicapped - victims of Dioxin. And those are ones who will never stop moving forward no matter what happens, because they have already overcome their biggest obstacle in their lives. ---------- Visit them at anphuccharity.vn/
