Can someone please explain to me how the world created by God in - TopicsExpress

Can someone please explain to me how the world created by God in Genesis was actually supposed to function? There was no death, all animals were herbivores, and they were instructed to fill the earth. Given that the earth was created with finite resources, what was supposed to happen then? A back of the envelope calculation shows that if humans have children every year, then the population grows tenfold in a generation (=20 years), so that in 6 generations population grows a millionfold, and reaches catastrophic proportions within 12 generations - and thats just humans. And unless God created a world without bacteria, humans would have been swimming in it within a few years. However, where exactly would this biomass come from? The whole idea of a world without death turns normal thinking on its head. Why eat? What would be the purpose? If there were no bacteria, how would digestion work anyway? What would happen to excrement? And in any case, how could plants develop seeds and fruit unless the flowers die away? If nothing dies, there is no composting, no nitrogen cycle to return nutrients to the ground. What was supposed to happen when nutrients were depleted? It seems to me that if Gods Plan A was for humans to live on the planet peacefully with plants and animals, then it doesnt seem to have been particularly well thought through. Plan B - where stuff dies, works pretty well to recycle materials, and allows stuff to develop and evolve - that all works far more efficiently; it makes me wonder why God wouldnt have realised that in the first place. ;)
