Carly who works for the Australian Refugee Association Inc shared this with me: Julian Burnside has managed successfully establish a letter writing program between Us and Asylum seekers! As a bonus, his system will allow asylum seekers to respond to your letters. This means that you can get to know an individual caught up in the Off-Shore Processing system. I can’t emphasise enough what a positive difference these letters can make. The people in detention on Nauru and Manus have very little hope to hold onto, and hearing that not everyone in Australia agrees with what is happening to them does restore a lot of faith.
