Carol Sommer How do we fix the problems in America? To fix the problem, We the People should find us a George Washington, and do what our founding fathers did. Throw them the hell out and go back to our Constitution with a few extra amendments. 1. term limits. 2. removal of the electoral college and revert to a one person, one vote, winner take all system. 3. lobbing our elected officials a death sentence crime for both the lobbyist and the official. All meetings to be in public and on TV. No political action committees. 4. No political parties. 5. Anyone who wants to run and is qualified, can file a form to be placed on the ballot. 6. Each candidate running for office is given one 10 minute segment a month to state on CSPAN or CSPAN-2 their reasons for running between the hours of 4 and 8 pm eastern, at government expense. They may each place an ad in any papers of their choice once a week, no larger than 2" wide and 4" long, at government expense. They may each place a 1 minute radio add once a day between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm, at government expense on no more than 3 radio stations. They may print as many fliers as they wish, but these flyers may only be distributed by leaving them at a government information booth located at a local court house. The first 1,000 flyers are to be paid for by the government, any additional flyers are to be paid for by the candidate. 7. Citizens who want to participate in government must have a financial stake in the government. To do this, every citizen must pay 5% of their income to the government. This money will be used to finance the cost of running for elections. If you have no financial stake in the government, you do not vote. If you work you may choose to have the 5% deducted from your check. If you choose to not work, then you live on the charity of others, not the government. 8. If you choose to enter the military and become disabled or serve 20 years, then you will receive both a retirement and medical care for your service. 9. No member of congress, office of the president, vice president or judge, will receive any pay or medical care once they leave their office. All will be subject to term limits. House of representatives, 6 years. Senate, 6 years, President 8 years, Supreme Court 10 years. Lower federal judges 8 years. 10. 6 months before taking office, each elected and appointed federal official will be subject to a full background check that will be published in full on a government website for review by the public. This background check will be published 3 months before taking office. If there is a request by more than 5,000 people for a recall of eligibility, the person will not be allowed to take the office until the eligibility recall is settled. If the person fails eligibility recall, the office will go to the person who had the second most votes in the election. This person will also subject to the 6 month background check and eligibility recall. We do not want unqualified people in office. 11. There shall be no law or ordnance that does not apply to all persons equally. 12. Members of Congress will receive the pay of $2.00 per hour of work. Work is defined as time spent on the floor of congress (at their desk) or setting in their committee chair. They will be granted 1 hour a day for Reading the bills that are submitted. This must be verifiable via webcams in their offices (they must be at their desks actually reading the documents). 13. Tariffs will be the sole income of the nation. No more income tax. The military will be funded by a national sales tax of 1% and this cannot be raised except by a national vote to increase. 14. Executive orders are only to be in force until Congress convenes to determine if they should become law. If within 10 days of convening, no action is taken by congress, the executive order expires. 15. There shall be no national debt except in time of war and the debt shall be paid off within 5 years of the end of the war. A national war sales tax shall be imposed to pay off the national debt and shall not exceed 2% nor last more than 5 years beyond the end of the war. This tax cannot be instated or increased without a national vote and shall be automatically expiring 5 years after the war ends. Once the war tax expires, another war tax cannot be enacted for a period of 1 year. 16. The government will not set a minimum wage. 17. The government may set a standard number of hours in a work week and must maintain this standard themselves, if set. These modest changes to the constitution in addition to the Bill of rights, should fix most of the problems we have encountered under the existing regime.
