Case in point, the politicians changed the tort laws in Texas. The sky used to be the limit for punitives damages but they capped it at $250,000. Now, say for instance, I were to kill someone and get acquitted in the criminal trial. But I lose the wrongful death civil trial and the complainant manages to prove malice. The most that can be awarded is $250,000. Even if a jury awards millions of dollars, it is reduced to $250,000. See, the politicians already work for the wealthy so why should I vote. The luxury tax and estate tax are getting ready to disappear, too. LOL.
