The descriptions are below along with a little more detail and some possible scenarios to consider for each character. If possible, read another monologue of your choice Once you have completed your recording: send an email with your video as an attachment or you can include a link to your video on another site like YouTube or Vimeo. Please make sure to include whether you are non-union or SAG along with your contact information in the email as well. **Videos can be filmed on any device: phone, computer, or camera.** This is an ensemble cast of characters that are versatile and show a range of emotion throughout the story. SELMA - 29-36 Female [[[Arab American]]]. An Artist who took the leap from her day job years ago to pursue her destiny. She is pensive and determined; an independent creative force that wakes up feeling suffocated, defeated and overwhelmed by her uncomfortable circumstances. Scenario: You wake up to face your inescapable life. Youre feeling suffocated and lost, and wondering where your big break is in life. You cant understand why your efforts as an artist are not enough? Searching for comfort and security at this point, you decide to ask for your old job back at the mattress factory. LANDLORD - 45-60 Female, open ethnicity. Selma’s off-beat, sarcastic landlord who is waiting on her rent. (dark humor, sarcastic type) Scenario: You want your money from your tenant and sneak attack them as they are leaving to work with your rude sarcasm. MR FARBER - 50’s Male, open ethnicity. The Dreamyards stressed out owner who surprisingly displays moments of sensitivity and insight into Selma’s dilemma. (stressed out and stern, yet wise and likes to share his wisdom here and there, but it does make him uncomfortable expressing emotion and having heart-to-heart talks, another versatile character) Scenario: You pull an employee into your office to discuss your disappointment in their work ethic. TERRY- 30’s Male, open ethnicity. Selma’s co-worker and top notch Mattress Inspector. A bit smug, he likes to call the shots and poke fun at others. Comedic. (the witty and meddling co-worker) Scenario: You give your co-worker a hard time for not being able to talk to girls. RAJ - 27 Male, open ethnicity. Selma and Terry’s co-worker and the youngest of the bunch who tends to get dominated and ridiculed. Comedic. (the pushover and defensive co-worker) Scenario: You try to talk about your weekend and continuously get interrupted by your co-worker. You try to ignore it but every now and then you have to say something to defend yourself against these remarks. CAROLINE - 40-55 Female, open ethnicity. A long-time employee at the Dreamyard, she is caring, outspoken, blunt and all up in your face about it. (comedic in a quirky and rambunctious way, very outgoing and loud) Scenario: You make a snap decision to quit your job after dealing with an impossible customer. We will be accepting auditions until Wednesday, March 19th. Please send at your earliest convenience to Casting@ArabAmericanCasting Submit now subject line Gas
