#CatholicTraditions Photos from Romes annual Festa de Noantri. Noantri (meaning, ours) is the celebration of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The popular festival dates to 1535 when fisherman discovered this (now 500 years old!) statue of the Virgin Mary at the mouth of the Tiber River during a storm. The statue became the patron saint of the Trastevere district. The procession begins on July 20th when the splendidly-clad statue is transported along the Tiber and carried through the streets of Trastevere, from the church of S. Agata towards the church of S. Crisgono, where it stays for 8 days before returning home today, July 29th.
