Causative have in English! Causative have in English!In this lesson, we are going to talk about causative have in English and how we can use it for the proper and correct way. You will have some examples and exercises to help you get a clear idea about using it. Just follow our explanation, and then practice with yourself as possible as you can. Doing this will help you get the idea as fast as possible. 1-Form: - Rule(1):- Have + object + verb past participle which means having something done. Rule(2) : Have + object + infinitive This structure is used with a person who does an action instead of you. 2- Usage: - 1- We use causative when we have arranged something for someone to do. For example, We had our hair cut. This sentence means that we went to the hairdresser to cut our hair. I cut my hair. This sentence means that I cut my hair myself. I had my car repaired. This means that I went to a mechanic to fix my car. I repaired my car. This sentence means that I fixed it by myself. 2- We use causative when someone does something to us. For example, Bill had his house built. 3- We use causative have to talk about bad, terrible experience. For example, Nora had her bag stolen last night. Important note: - Sometimes, we use ”get” instead of ”have” especially in informal spoken English. For example, I’m going to get my room decorated tomorrow. Causative have with different tenses: - 1- present simple: - She makes a cake. Causative have: - She has a cake made. 2- -Ing form She loves making a cake. She loves having a cake made. 3- Present continuous: - She is making a cake. She is having a cake made. 4- Past simple: - She made a cake. She had a cake made. 5- Past continuous: - She was making a cake. She was having a cake made. 6- Present perfect: - She has made a cake. She has had a cake made. 7- Present perfect continuous: - She has been making a cake. She has been having a cake made. 8- Past perfect: - She had made a cake. She had had a cake. 9- Past perfect continuous: - She had been making a cake. She had been having a cake made. 10- Be going to: - She is going to make a cake. She is going to have a cake made. 11-Future simple: - She will make a cake. She will have a cake made. 12- Future continuous: - She will be making a cake. She will be having a cake made. 13- Present conditional: - She would make a cake. She would have a cake made. 14- May She may make a cake. She may have a cake made. 15-Present conditional continuous:- She would be making a cake. She would have a cake made. 16- Present perfect conditional:- She would have made a cake. She would have had a cake made. 17- Can She can make a cake. She can have a cake made. Exercise: - Use the causative form in the following sentences. 1- She cleans her house. 2- He is painting a picture. 3- He repaired his car. 4- She was cooking a delicious meal. 5- They will write an essay. 6- The children have decorated the room. 7- She has been making a cake. 8- You had washed the dishes. 9-They had been decorating their room. 10- She may send a letter. 11- She will be cutting her hair.
