Cause of Contention and overcoming such… Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride (inordinate self-esteem or self-desire to be, have, or do) cometh contention (to quarrel or strive with another): but with the well advised is wisdom (Wisdom is best defined of what it is not and is in James 3:13-18 (13) Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation (manner of life) his works with meekness of wisdom. (14) But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. (15) This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. (16) For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. (17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated (It may be easy to be received, but not all will find it to be so.), full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. (18) And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.) Now by way of application, of the concept of pride, as the root cause of contention, let us consider pride as being the essence and the expression of one’s self-serving expectations being manifested either as being reactive or proactive... Now when one’s self-serving expectations (whether legitimate or not) are not being fulfilled if one reacts to such in the carnal sin nature in pride, they usually become angry, and if such anger is verbalized towards another it will be the manifestation of some degree of being contentious, critical, condemning, contrary, chiding, and so forth… Now on the other hand when one’s self-serving expectations (whether legitimate or not) are being proactively expressed and one’s self-serving expectations are not being fulfilled by being reciprocated in the desired way; likewise, there can be the manifestation of anger, manipulation, deception, as well as anxiety or fear and even self-pity… Now what we need is wisdom which comes from asking for it and learning the Scriptures by application through personal trial and tribulation… Jas 1:2-5 (2) My brethren (James is addressing believer, he is addressing you.), count (consider) it all joy (This is supernatural joy or calm and delight regardless of one’s situation or circumstance.) when ye fall into (Note the phrase here is fall into not fall out of.) divers (various types) temptations (contextually, allurements towards suffering); (3) Knowing (Spiritually and scriptural understand what occurs as you experience trial and what you should be doing in the midst of such.) this, that the trying (The word trying can indicate the exerting of strength, which is one of the reasons God allows us to suffer trial. He allows us to suffer trials to help the believer gain spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural strength regardless of one’s situation and circumstances.) of your faith (Now faith [credence, conviction, realization] is the substance [confidence] of things [comprehension of spiritual, spiritual, and supernatural events or actions] hoped [to confide or expect] for, the evidence [conviction, reality] of things not seen [Faith comprehends the spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural events or actions in the eternal realm or existence of God, God willing such, before God manifests such in the earthly visible realm or existence of the believer.]. Hebrews 11:1) worketh patience (Patience is the spiritual ability to abide faithful in and through the LORD Jesus Christ, regardless of one’s situation or circumstance.). (4) But let (To be able to competently practice this BASIC spiritual and scriptural discipline, it takes comprehension of such, choice, commitment, consistency, continuance, claiming such by faith, and celebrating such with praise and thanksgiving.) patience have her perfect (spiritual and scriptural maturing) work, that ye may be perfect (spiritually, scripturally, and supernaturally complete) and entire (spiritually, scripturally, and supernaturally sound or whole), wanting nothing. (5) If any of you lack wisdom (We all lack such and need to seek God for wisdom.), let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not (God does not belittle or scold us for asking for wisdom.); and it shall be given him. (God allows the believer to suffer trial that they might learn to have patience or the spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural ability to abide faithful in the and through the LORD Jesus Christ, which is wisdom or applied knowledge of God’s Word. When suffering such we should be asking God for wisdom, by faith, which God is endeavoring to work in us and through us in the process of spiritual, scriptural, and supernatural maturing during the suffering of trial.)
