Century, Al Nafeesa and Coastal win Muscat: Day Two of the Independence Cup organised by the Oman Indo-Pak Friends and sponsored by Al Turki Enterprises and National Metal Cans witnessed three games being worked off at the Al Rifa ground at the Azaiba Beach, with Century CC defeating Asad XI in a nail-biting encounter in the opening match. In the second match Al Nafeesa Jewellers beat Asfandyar by 13 runs while Coastal CC inflicted a seven wicket defeat on Shaya CC in the last game of the evening. Opting to bat after winning the toss Century CC went on to score 59 runs for the loss of three wickets at the end of the stipulated eight overs. National player Jatinder top scored with 30 and ably supported by Sameer who made a quickfire 18 to help swell the total. Majid was the main wicket-taker with figure of 2 for 5. Needing 60 runs to win Asad XI started cautiously but kept losing wickets to end their innings with a score of 57 for the loss of nine wickets. The wickets to fall were shared by David 3 for 13, Wasim 2 for 13 and Patel 2 for 10 respectively. Jatinder of Century CC was adjudged the man of the match. In the next match played between Al Nafeesa Jewellers and Asfandya at the same venue Al Nafessa Jewellers won the toss and elected to bat, posting a total of 74 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allotted eight overs. Oman Cricket national players Awal Khan Adnan Ilyas and Khawar were the main run-getters with 27, 16, and 15 runs respectively. Requiring almost nine runs an over Asfandyar in reply made 61 runs for the loss of three wickets at the end of their eight overs. Iftikar top scored with 26. Awal Khan of Al Nafeesa Jewellers was declared the man of the match. The last match of the evening was an easy affair for Coastal CC who lost the toss to Shaya CC, but it was the bowler who rictricted the opposition to 29 for the loss of six wickets at the end of the allotted eight overs. Sharath with 3 for 7 did all the damage. Set a target of 30 runs to win Coastal CC completed the formalities in 6.3 overs. Sharath of Coastal CC was named the man of the match at the end of the game.
