Chairperson Occupational Therapy College of Health Sciences Rush University Medical Center - Chicago, IL Rush University Medical Center presents an opportunity for a Chairperson, Occupational Therapy in the College of Health Sciences. The Chairperson facilitates and leads the academic, clinical practice, and research activities of the department. Utilizing advanced education and training, the Chairperson collaborates with Rush University Medical Center and academic administrators and department coordinators to determine the direction(s) of the department; is directly responsible for development and supervision of the department’s strategic planning processes, fiscal and personnel decisions, allocation of resources including personnel, supplies and equipment, and integration and adherence to regulatory agency policies; champions the educational needs of students; collaborates with members of related disciplines in relevant activities. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: -Demonstrates advanced knowledge relative to the theory and practice of occupational therapy while responding to customer needs. -Develops and implements policies and procedures for occupational therapy compatible with the healthcare system. -Upholds professional values and ethics. -Oversees the design and implementation of research related activities. -Oversees educational and programmatic initiatives within the department. -Supports the articulation of the practice model of practitioner-teacher-investigator within the occupational therapy department of Rush University Medical Center. -Ensures the implementation of relevant Rush University Medical Center policies and procedures to accrediting agencies, legislative bodies, and reimbursement sources. -Establishes and monitors productivity and revenue goals for the department. -Oversees and coordinates the peer review and performance appraisal for faculty, operational staff, and Rush University Medical Center staff. -Participates in clinical and classroom instruction. -With the advice and participation of faculty, designs and implements a curriculum that is rigorous and relevant to ensure competence of graduates. -Effectively leads and oversees faculty in providing high-quality didactic and clinical education activities. -Engages in scholarly activities appropriate to position of Chair, including funded research, research publications, and presentations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: -Certification by NBCOT as an OTR to act as an occupational therapist. -Eligible for Illinois licensure to provide services as a licensed occupational therapist in Illinois. -5 years of occupational clinical practice including student supervision and clinical education of students preferred. -A research doctoral degree, PhD in occupational therapy or related area of expertise. -Expertise as evidenced by academic or continuing education teaching, publication, and/or grant funding. -Knowledge of healthcare systems, academic systems, and operations. -Excellent organizational, administrative, and management skills to lead the department at Rush University Medical Center and in the community to support development of department and faculty. -Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to interact with faculty, clinicians, administration, students, and leading figures in the community and at Rush University Medical Center. -Maintain Level II HES Competencies to assure effectiveness and meet the necessary requirements at Rush University Medical Center. -Maintain CPR certification to act effectively in the Medical Center and meet the requirements of the Medical Center. -Dynamic ability to integrate Rush University Medical Center and academic activities consistent with practitioner-teacher-investigator model. -Demonstrates energy, enthusiasm, and motivation by the desire to study, mentor, lead, and creatively advance the occupational therapy profession.
