Chapter 14 Progress... As I write these few words and Im in a Starbucks sitting with a coffee, my cell phone and a wireless laptop and I cant help but think there are few things you really need to know as you make your W.A.Y. in this world. Nothing... Let me repeat nothing is more important than for you to slow down a little, take a big breath and look around. Your world is spectacular... spectacular good and spectacular bad with all sorts of people trying desperately to control your attention so they can make their money. The trouble is moneys truth is being kept from you and so will the money if you dont learn the truth. The TRUTH is whoever controls your attention gets rich... You or the Salesperson. Really... thats just one of the many Secrets you will need to know in order to navigate your W.A.Y. through such treacherous modern times. In your American Time there is more Good than at any time in history and you should be jumping out of your skin to get at it. Your only requirement is to look for the prizes hidden behind all the distractions. Your normal is instant information on any subject anywhere. If you had you lived twenty or fifty years ago access to this type of power would have made you one of the most important people in the world. But instead you live now and the Kings and Queens are the salespeople who conspire to manipulate your attention and primal emotions in hopes you will buy things and ideas you dont need or even want, things that if you keep ingesting might make you mentally and physically ill... AND right now more likely than not, making this generation the first ever to reverse humanitys trend of increasing life expectancy. In Our lifetime a monumental sea change has occurred and you need to be aware of it. Have you ever sat back and wondered how mankind became civilized and so advanced? In one word... Storytelling... passing on knowledge from one person to another, one generation to the next turned knowledge into the literal building blocks to more. Because of storytelling people didnt need to relearn things over and over through trial and error. Each person had a chance to pick up where those who went first left off and a snowballing of progress began to take place. If you think about it modern day healthcare and education are really only refined storytelling as the best ideas survived and the bad ones died with the person. But in our moment of time the bad has been kept alive on purpose for power and profit. Spread through technology and a rapidly increasing number of infected souls a creeping filth advances at the speed of Intels fastest chip and it is overwhelming the good, those who have gone first tried so hard to advance. Need a more tangible example of what I mean? Think Slim Shady and his wicked rhymes. Before we go on you need to know Im not a moralist, Im a pragmatist. But more and more the peddlers of filth are convincing all of US to turn away from the ideas that keep us healthy and strong and towards the ideas that simply dont. This is a problem for all of US to deal with, but the greatest impact will be on this generation. Look around you at what technology enabled... lots of it very good but if you become distracted by what bed Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton might be sleeping in (jail or otherwise) you are not likely to see the awesome potential of your own ideas... also enabled by technology. This isnt only a Pop Culture phenomenon, Candidates use polls and focus groups to find the words that work so they can manipulate your attention and votes... while serving the interests of those with the money. Its a full frontal assault on Democracy... yet no one seems to care. Filth has infiltrated our Democracy and the rest of the American Soul... and it will be for The Next Generation to scrub it clean. Remember, how you look at things... is your consciousness. How you look at your Friends List... will determine whether you will draw the attention of others to your purposes or get caught in the web of anothers. The Better Self can share the burden, lighten your load and at times make the journey less treacherous. But The Climb... the strength and wisdom that comes from every breathtaking step are Yours, until the end of time. Self Evolution is a great deal more complex than just feeding the mind facts and figures. Knowledge must be blended with courageous action in order to create freedom, faith and more courage. Only then will knowledge hold power. Information without the courage to think and most importantly... act... beyond what is “normal” is of marginal value and those who fail to recognize the value of this statement will fail to realize the inspired promise of their life. Made to improve, is our fundamental human calling. Beyond nature’s evolutionary plan is a marvelous mutation of human consciousness. It’s an instinct to progress beyond “whatever” stands in our way. This instinct creates the inner craving for “more”, but it also requires the conscious free will of the individual to experience Self Evolution and the pain that comes from all meaningful growth and change. Within each of us is an authentic self. Over time, Ive come to believe that there is a purpose for the differences that make you... You and me... Me. Find the purpose to let the Authentic Self within you loose... learn how to feed it well and over time you just might find a way to end to the pain that sometimes comes from you just being who You were born to be. Purpose vs. Goals... Goals have timelines and your purpose does not. Pursuit of your purpose is an ongoing commitment that will include the success and failure of many goals but it is not dependent on any single one. Understanding that your goals require a meaningful context is essential to success. Most people fail to connect their goals and randomly create objectives and assign action items and timelines. This usually results in failure, as too much emphasis is given to the end result without regard for the how and why. It is the “why” (your purpose) that determines the “how” and provides the energy to support perseverance. In addition, a strong sense of purpose will help to ensure that your goals aren’t conflicting. There must be an alignment of your goals that creates a harmony of thoughts and actions. Learn to identify where you have created conflicting goals and use your purpose to align them. This may require you to abandon legitimate desires that if pursued may delay, make more difficult and even prevent the attainment of your purpose. You cannot “do it all”. No one can. Only fools try. Understand that timing is critical to determining the value of any idea. A great idea delivered at the wrong time will meet with unmovable resistance. Through persistence you will keep it viable. But even so it is very important that you don’t confuse poor timing with a poor idea. It may be that your idea holds no value at this present time but it could soon. So don’t become discouraged and discard the idea simply because it has not brought success yet. Through persistent effort you will have many opportunities to reconfigure any idea and re-present it when the time is right. Those overly concerned with short term results will walk away from many a great idea and by doing so never nurture the ingredients. Imagine for a moment the product a winery would produce if it had no sense of timing. The same can be said of presenting a great idea to the wrong person. No matter who this person is, it may be that this is simply the wrong person to become engaged with. Perhaps they are distracted by personal concerns. Perhaps they are flawed either personally or professionally. Perhaps they are leaving the company and couldn’t care less about anything new. Perhaps you should find the right person before giving up on your idea. Remember This: The right idea delivered at the wrong time or to the wrong person is frustrating… but not fatal. The right idea is always the right idea so get to work and prove it.
