Charter cities or corporate run cities are being created in - TopicsExpress

Charter cities or corporate run cities are being created in Honduras using inhumane economic policies. Weve tried corporate run cities in the past the company towns of the late 1800s like Pullman, Illinois among hundreds of others. There was no need for democracy in these towns and there are no need for democracy in charter towns. They are just another vehicle for companies to make profit without the interference of government and/or human rights. This is why some form of government is necessary in todays corporate world because at least in theory a government owes something to all of its people, but a corporation only is obliged to owe profits to their shareholders. Thus in company towns off the past and charter cities where the vast majority of the population might work for the chartered corporation that governs the city, but there are little to no civil liberties for those who arent in the elite few who own shares in the business. They often lead to far more human rights abuses than places where all citizens are able to hold the leadership accountable even if it is through a simple vote. The only people in these charter cities who are treated well are those with a share in the governing business. The United States has aided Honduras in launching these charter cities. If we are doing so we should just stop lying to our people and telling them our foreign policy is to spread democracy, but it is to spread free market capitalism with or without (and more often without) the freedoms we say we value at home or abroad. newrepublic/article/120559/honduras-charter-cities-spearheaded-us-conservatives-libertarians
