Check out Documentary Night hosted by Robert Byrd! New season of Documentary Night is officially being launched at a new location. Our first film of this new season will be Bully, directed by Lee Hirsch. We will gather on Tuesday, October 28, 7:30 pm at the St. Paul Athletic Club, located at 340 Cedar Street, downtown St. Paul, 55101. The screening is absolutely free of charge and you are encouraged to bring your friends. Directions to the St. Paul Athletic Club from Minneapolis are provided below. Before getting into details about Bully, I’d like to mention a few exciting changes to our gathering. While you are free to bring your own popcorn or snacks to the screening, you will also have the option of ordering food from a limited dinner menu at Butler’s Café & Bar, on the Mezzanine level (second floor) the St. Paul Athletic Club where the Documentary Night screening will actually take place. You will also have the option of ordering cocktails, wine, beer or soft drinks. You will be responsible for paying for whatever you order, but are under no obligation to purchase anything. Directed by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker, Lee Hirsch, Bully is a beautifully cinematic, character-driven documentary. At its heart are those with huge stakes in this issue, whose stories each represent a different facet of Americas bullying crisis. Bully follows five kids and families over the course of a school year. Stories include two families who have lost children because of bullying and a mother awaiting the fate of her 14-year-old daughter who has been incarcerated after bringing a gun on her school bus. With an intimate glimpse into homes, classrooms, cafeterias and principals offices, the film offers insight into the often cruel world of the lives of bullied children. This is an extremely powerful film that you’ll be talking about long after the Documentary Night screening. I guarantee that you will find this one of the most compelling documentaries youve seen in a while. It received a 85% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, which is an amazingly good response from critics.
