Children of God Thought for the week: We are all children of God. That makes us all potential princes and princesses. Whether we become princes and princesses depends on whether we are willing to acknowledge our relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. When we choose to live, submitted to Him, we are eligible to receive all the benefits of being rightful heirs to His throne. While He does not command our obedience*, He has a right to expect it, if we want the benefits of an intimate relationship with our Creator and Father. There is no other Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Friend or Companion, who actually knows and cares for us like God. He is the Father who sets the standard, respecting His children and allowing them to make their own mistakes, and experience the consequences, hoping they will learn from them. He loves us unconditionally, although He may not demonstrate His love when we are rebellious. He chastises us firmly, with love, reminding us that He knows we can do better, and affirming us, even as He deals with our failings. However, as the true Father, He is willing to step in and rescue His children from the circumstances they have gotten themselves into, when we acknowledge we have been wrong. He knows what He knows, defining knowledge, since true knowledge originates and rests in Him. She is the Mother who watches over Her children, making sure they have what they need to do what they are made to do. She loves us with unconditional love, which is demonstrated unconditionally as we are constantly shielded from the worst ramifications of our actions. She makes sure we have enough oxygen to breathe, caresses our cheeks with Her breath and chastises us softly, with a loving voice and gentle mercy. God is the Sibling who stands up for us when we are threatened, walks with us to school, hangs out with us when we need someone who can relate to our specific circumstances and introduces us to friends they know will benefit us, and benefit from us, being in their lives. This Sibling advises us on how to best proceed in every situation, and catches us when we fall, helping us up again, when we are ready to try again. They even prod us to get up, when we have been sitting on our butts, moping, too long. He is the Friend who stepped into His creation in order to gain perspective of what it means to be human, to experience fatigue, sorrow, affection, temptation, and death. He even experienced the reality of, what many of us only experience through deceit, separation from the Father. We have no reason to complain against Him, but we have the privilege and right to see Him as the source of our hurt, and be angry with Him. He only asks that we process the anger and allow Him to show us how the hurt was designed so He could heal a wound, remove a burden, or open our hearts to His awesome love in a new way. He is the most wonderful relative you could ever imagine, and He knows exactly what you need, when, having already provided for it, if we only look around to see how. Trust Him. He is the only One who is not fickle, corruptible, manipulative, aggressive, or accusative. He doesn’t equate us to our behavior, but allows the enemy to own that trait and tactic. He doesn’t accuse us, but softly speaks to our hearts, letting us know we are loved and adored. He cherishes us, and wants us to be intimate with Him, before anyone else, allowing Him to protect us from the darts the enemy will use anyone, including our closest friends and confidants, to shoot at our hearts. If God is your most intimate Friend, no one can do anything to you without His purpose being served, and His purpose is our health and welfare. I am a prince in the kingdom of God. I have many siblings who are princesses and princes. Each is entitled to the protection, provision and prestige of being a child of the Most High King. Each is empowered by their Father to take authority wherever He sends them, for whatever He assigns them to do. Each is able to abuse their position and authority but, He, being their Father, is always seeking to clean us up so we will not do so. He uses us to clean each other up, and even allows those in rebellion, including the demonic, to train us to serve and worship Him as He deserves to be worshipped and served. His children do not have the right to hurt others but the privilege and resources to help and empower those who seek reconciliation. I encourage you to seek His face, acknowledge His presence and allow Him to orchestrate your life as the mentor only He can be, organizing His coaching staff to lead you into His freedom. *The Decalogue (Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5) was not written as commandments, but statements of fact. They are better read as “Since you are my people you will not…”
