Childrens literature has lost one of its greats--Walter Dean Myers. I am shocked and sad. I served with Walter as a PEN/Naylor Fellowship judge and hosted him on several panels. He was passionate, eloquent and fiercely dedicated to reaching out to and inspiring young people, especially young men of color, both through his books and in person. Walter was also a gentleman with a fine sense of humor and a zest for life, as well as an avid collector of historic photographs.
