Chillicothe Police Department Press Release 613 Walnut St., Chillicothe, MO 64601* 660-646-2121 Toll Free 1-877-646-2185 Date: 08/05/2014 For Release: 08/05/2014 Contact: Lieutenant Scott Chubick Reference: Special News Release Approximately three years ago a joint effort to update the radio communications system for all Livingston County Public Safety Personnel was initiated. This effort is to bring the technology of the Missouri Statewide Wireless Interoperable Network (MOSWIN) to the personnel that protect you. This radio system allows all Police, Fire, and EMS agencies in the state to have a common radio system in the event a critical incident occurs. For example, if a damaging tornado would strike any part of the state, the MOSWIN system will already remedy the biggest hurdle in an event like that, which is communications between different jurisdictions. A major step towards the completion of this effort has been completed! A dispatch console upgrade that totaled nearly $30,000 was completed today with those channels and is ready for implementation. The funds to cover this step in this process were split between the City of Chillicothe, Livingston County, Livingston County 911, and the Livingston County Ambulance District. Currently the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department is 99% equipped with MOSWIN radios in their patrol cars and portable units for their deputies. The Chillicothe Fire Department is 99% equipped with MOSWIN radios in their apparatus; and the Police Department is 20% equipped with MOSWIN radios in the patrol cars. The vast majority of the funds to obtain the mobile and portable radios have been gained through grants. If all goes well, this project will be completed and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, the Chillicothe Police Department, and the Chillicothe Fire Department will be 100% MOSWIN capable within two years. The project also outlines that each of the six rural fire departments in Livingston County will have a minimum of one MOSWIN radio in their fleet. The success and continuation of this project is only possible because of a common desire between all the Public Safety agencies in Livingston County to offer the best service possible to the citizens we serve.
