Choosing to Fight or Not to Fight The Childrens Aid Society There is no easy answer to this, but regardless of the choice you make, the best thing you can do is to educate yourself. There is a lot of good material on this site, and a lot of people offer good advice. For example, start documenting and recording everything, and make sure you have an advocate with you at every meeting. The CAS is a mechanism of the Provincial Government, and it operates under your provinces Child and Family Services Act. I suggest you begin by reviewing this legislation, and your provinces Courts of Justice Act. Now, whether you decide to fight or work with CAS, you should start getting all your ducks in a row. Remember, the courts do not know you personally, and very often will lean towards caution, and side with the Society. So, either way, you will need to prove to the court that there is nothing to fear by having the child(ren) returned to your care. Start doing parenting classes, or any other programs that will serve to alleviate the concerns the society has raised. If youve done these programs in the past, make sure you have records to verify this. Also, start gathering letters from agencies, doctors, or any other person that provides support for your position. Remember, the Society has unlimited resources, and it has decided to stay involved with you, because it has found a chink in your armour, and it perceives you as being easy prey. The more files it has open, the more money it receives. It seeks to exploit the most vulnerable in Society. You must do all that you can to protect you and your children, and this means putting all your time and energy into this. I hope this has been of some help, and that you and your children will take the steps to make positive changes in your lives to ensure the CAS doesnt ever come between yous again
