Christ in Our Lives for Tuesday, October 8th, 2013 I very surprised to also read in the article in “The Lutheran” that Martin Luther was very intolerant of the Jews. It also told of the German Lutheran Church taking part in supporting the Nazi regime during World War II too. They used Martin Luther’s anti-Jewish writings from the 1500’s to support this way of thinking. They even celebrated Martin Luther’s birthday as a time to condone violence against the Jews. They were much more violent against the Jews than Martin Luther ever was. The article also told of how the German Lutheran church redeemed itself with these people in more recent times though. They had at several conferences asked for forgiveness from the descendents of these groups. They started in 1988 with working on obtaining the forgiveness from the Jews and in 2002 with the Mennonites. It began with dialog between the three groups. They couldn’t change the past, but they could make the future better for everyone. So what is the best way for us to move beyond any terrible behavior? Being intolerant of others is an evil, devil based way to be. Shouldn’t we ask forgiveness of people when we are intolerant of them? We can learn a lot from this story on how to treat others of different faiths. Can we be more like Jesus with someone who is different than us with looks, faith, beliefs? Jesus loves us all unconditionally and he doesn’t look at us any different than his loving children and forgives us all our trespasses, no questions asked. Mathew 6:12-15And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Have a blessed day, Joy Engel, West Ida Immanuel
