Christians, regarding Adrian Peterson and the child abuse charges hes facing, whether you agree with the principle of spanking or not, our Bible commands parents to use the rod of correction. So, the rod of correction DOES WORK, if it is administered properly and with the right attitude from the parent. Thats another teaching, though. The problems of abuse come when parents are clueless about the purpose and method of spanking their children. There is a righteous purpose for spanking a child, but a mans anger will not achieve this purpose. That righteous purpose is to produce obedience in a child. If you are spanking your child for anything other than disobedience, then you are missing Gods mark! If you are spanking your child out of anger, then again, you are missing Gods mark! Deuteronomy 12:28 Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God. Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. James 1:20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. ● Remember... Where purpose is not known; abuse is inevitable. The word abuse comes from a combination of two other words... abnormal and use... abuse. From looking at those open cuts and welts on a FOUR YEAR OLD child, Peterson clearly abused his child, which is why the grand jury indicted him. Peterson and many other parents need to unlearn some wrong behavior regarding old school spankings, and they need to seek Gods word for discipline and correction of children. When we know better, then we do better. :-)
