City Employees Vie for TAMUCC Scholarship The City of Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) have teamed up to give three scholarships to City employees entering the Master of Public Administration program. The drawing for the scholarships will take place Tuesday, June 17 at the City Council meeting, during the City Manager’s Report. A total of seven City employees are eligible for the scholarship funds. City Manager Ron Olson will choose the names of three employees. Each will receive $1,000 from TAMUCC’s special scholarship program and $1,000 from the City of Corpus Christi’s education assistance fund. To qualify, students must have a 3.0 G.P.A. and be a City employee. Olson said, “It is an honor for the City to participate in a program which helps our employees succeed by providing multiple learning and development opportunities.” The seven employee candidates are: 1. Sarah Arroyo, City Auditor’s Office; 2. Marie Cruz, Human Resources; 3. Jennifer Ramirez, Capital Programs; 4. Michelle Fitch, Human Resources; 5. Captain Jason Brady, Police Department; 6. Carl Gross, Airport; 7. Kristina Leal, Mayor’s Office. The selected employees will receive a 100 percent scholarship for 12 credit hours of the 36 credit hour MPA program. The special funds are available for only the 2014/2015 academic year. Both TAMUCC and the City of Corpus Christi contributed $6,000 each to the program. Students also have the opportunity to apply for scholarships and financial aid, in addition to these special scholarship funds, in subsequent years.
