City Sets Special Meeting On Half Cent Sales Tax Question The City of Topeka has announced a special meeting of the council to vote on the language to extend the half cent sales tax. City Manager Jim Colson will present a resolution to the Council on Tuesday night. Last Tuesday they rejected the question language. According to County Commissioner Shelley Buhler, that sent everyone back to the drawing table. “There’s a good bit of back and forth between the city and the county, and that’s a healthy conversation so far. I think we want to work towards a proposal that meets the voters’ approval.” There was question if the City would call the meeting due to stalled talks between them and the county. To place the question on the ballot, both must approve the language for the half cent sales tax to be continued for 15 years.
