City of San Antonio Animal Care Services HERO NEEDED!! Our Animal Care Officers see a lot so you would think their emotions would be in check when they go out to investigate a case, but every so often one comes along that breaks down their walls. A few days ago, Rusty (A285483) made those walls crumble like the dry, brittle leaves he used for a bed. Rusty was not a stray. He was an owned dog who had been thrown in the backyard and neglected. There is an open cruelty case pending for Rusty so we cant say too much, bu the owner has surrendered custody of him to ACS so we are trying to find a foster, rescue or very compassionate adopter for him so he can start realizing what its like to be a beloved family member. Rusty is emaciated and has one of the worst cases of demodex mange we have ever seen. Its so bad, his feet are swollen and he has several open wounds and ulcers on his skin. The good news is, this is NOT contagious to people or other pets and it is 100% treatable. There is no reason Rusty had to suffer like this. If treated when it first appeared, he would have recovered quickly. Food, medicine and love was all Rusty needed - none of which he received. Will you be his hero?
