Clip from an interview with Channel 7 news about the recent rabbit ban. Daniel Kopulos and Horace, Faunas education rabbit, made an appearance to voice their opinions. City council recently met to propose a ban on the sale of rabbits in pet stores due to the overwhelmingly high numbers that are showing up in shelters every year. Rabbits are often impulse buys for children. What most people dont realize is that rabbits require quite a bit of care and expense over time and generally do not do well with small children. Fauna has always recommended adoption for small mammals rather than purchasing and this is one more step in the right direction. While for some small retail pet stores this may be a bump in the road for sales, its time that everyone rethinks the way we do business. Providing the needed supplies and education that our customers need for the pets they own should be enough without relying on live animal sales. Retail is a tough business and small businesses like ours can only survive with the support of our local communities. Online sales of supplies are causing the closing of many small local shops or making it so the only sales many of them have are from live animals. Shop local for your supplies to help keep our small shops in business and visit a shelter!
