Cocoa Beach’s Kugelmann benefitting from changes Things are little bit different when Cocoa Beach pitcher Megan Kugelmann is in the circle. This season, she’s decided to change things up with her pitching motion. “It’s called a ‘roll’ now,” Kugelmann said of her new windup. “It’s actually helped me become more accurate.” Kugelmann, FLORIDA TODAY’s player of the year in 2013, and her head coach, Wayne Moore, believe the tweak in her throwing motion also increased her pitch speed. “In the offseason, she’s worked hard to get stronger physically,” Cocoa Beach head coach Wayne Moore said. “And the change in her motion in the beginning of the year actually added more miles per hour (to her pitch).” On top of that, she has perfected her change-up. It has become Kugelmann’s strongest pitch in her arsenal. “That’s added another dimension to her pitching,” Moore said. Against Palm Bay in a 6-0 win Monday night, she recorded 13 strikeouts. That brought her total to 108 on the season. Cocoa Beach, now 10-2, has won nine games in a row and will look to continue that hot streak tonight at Astronaut. “We just need to keep working hard and play as error-free as we can,” Moore said.
