Just after WWII, Fairbanks Morse wanted to market diesel-electric - TopicsExpress

Just after WWII, Fairbanks Morse wanted to market diesel-electric locomotives, but it lacks a suitable assembly plant. General Electric had the capacity in their Erie PA plant, and it was agreed to have their new passengers locomotive assembled there. Since that arrangement, we railfans have been calling these units Erie Built (EMC motorcars from St Louis Car or Pullman could have been called St Louis Built) In theory, these locomotive should be carring two production numbers: one for Fairbanks Morse and another one for GE. Here an Erie Built at LaGrange after swapping out the Opieengine with a 567. (EMD photo found on web)
