Coconut fiber is the outer shell of a coconut. The master gardeners call it coir fiber it is one of natures best air and water retention medium. I think about a coconut floating across the ocean surviving to land on a tropical beach with everything it needs to grow. Also makes me think of sun tanning myself on a tropical sandy beach this time of year! Anyway, I would describe it as looking and reacting to water very similar to coffee grounds. I recycle it from a local grower and bend it with compost to create one of the best growing mediums available.
