The modern euthanasia movement traces its roots at least to the early eugenics movement at the beginning of the 20th century, in the pogroms of National Socialism in 1930s Germany which sought the extermination of people with disabilities and where the seeds of the ‘Final Solution’ first took to sprout. Speaker: Paul Russell (https://facebook/paul.russell.56) Paul will be talking about how the modern movement downplays its connection to eugenics (as it is not a good look!) and instead argues that deliberate killing by lethal injection should be permitted based on a radical view of personal autonomy that elevates ‘choice’ above all else. Yet there remains subtle evidence of a type of eugenics that seeks to eliminate suffering – all suffering – as if humanity would somehow be purified and elevated by such an achievement.
