Coming this Sunday, July 20, we celebrate the Lords Supper after learning about The Wedding Supper of the Lamb which is Revelation’s version of the wonderful feast that Jesus spoke about in parables and that the Old Testament spoke about with deep yearning. When it happens, says John, it goes right alongside a feast for the birds where the dish is barbecued Babylon! Here at the end of this age, the great rival of God’s kingdom coming is the world city of Babylon – Rome to its ancient readers – Rome’s mimics in our day. And it is God who brings victory, it is the Groom who triumphs for the sake of the Bride, his church, his people. But the bride has something to do – be faithful. Be faithful against tempting idols and the pressure of the rivals to God. We are called to be faithful, even to the point of death, even to martyrdom, for the sake of our beloved. It is the faithful who loved God more than their own lives who will dance the Wedding Dance and feast at the Forever Table! Blessed indeed are those who are invited!
