Communitas: Barnett Newman said the perfect quote about the role of the artist, ever needed more today: “What is the explanation of the seemingly insane drive of man to be painter and poet if it is not an act of defiance against man’s fall and an assertion that he return to the Garden of Eden? For the artists are the first men.” There is so much change going on now worldwide: evolution and pushback, backlash. Some are calling it the age of Kali Yuga, dark times of conformity, mediocrity, malaise, morass – but also ever increasing freedom, communion, hyperconnectedness. It is the time for artists to keep finding new ways of being: creating more art with meaning and transcendence and resonance, the sublime and reason and creation. It is our time worldwide to be the seers, recreating bohemia, building utopia, creating the new and progress.
