Consider Your Ways “Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, Consider your ways.” Haggai 1:5. This is a plea to all of mankind. It denotes that you should stop and think about the way you are taking in life. Where is the road I am traveling leading me? Am I on the road to heaven? What is the final end of my ways? Will your life, when measured to God’s Word, give you life eternal or will it damn your soul in hell? There are only two ways. One is the way to heaven. The other is the road to hell. You may ask, “How do I know which way I am on?” The manner in which you can tell is if you are living a sin-free life. If you are not, then you are on the wrong way. The Bible says in I John 3:8, “He that committeth sin is of the devil…” You may ask, “What is sin?” The Bible explains it very well in James 4:17. It reads, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” To sin is to go against the dealings of Christ and to trample His mercies under your feet. Let us first consider the way of sin. It is a way that can never satisfy. Haggai 1:6 reads, “Ye have sown much…but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.” Is that how your life is? Have you tried to find satisfaction in sin? You never will. Sin is a hard path to travel. You cannot travel it without being robbed of every good thing. It will never give lasting joy. It may promise you much, but it will fulfill little. All its promises are empty. The pleasures of sin are only for a season (Heb. 11:25). Sin not only hurts you here, but its final end is eternal torment without a hope of it ever ending. It is much too great a risk to be in this way for even a moment! “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat.” Matt. 7:13. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom. 6:23. Thank God that we are not left without a hope! There is another way. You can choose the way of holiness. The Word says in Matt. 7:14 that it is a narrow way, but it leads to eternal life. This way will satisfy your soul. John 4:14 says, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” Are you longing for something that will bring true satisfaction and joy? If you enter in at the strait gate, you will find what you are looking for. It is the best way. The rewards are great. If you choose this way you will never regret it. You may ask, “How do I get on the narrow way?” Acts 3:19 says to repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out. Isa. 1:18 says, “Come now and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet…they shall be as wool.” Also John 3:7 says that we must be born again. You must be truly repentant and have a godly sorrow. II Cor. 7:10 says, “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” A godly sorrow will work a change in your life. If you repent with a godly sorrow, you will no longer continue in your sins. It will create carefulness in you. Whereas the sorrow of the world will work death in you by deceiving your soul into a state of false rest and feel-goodism. I John 5:18 says, “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he…keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” Which way will you take? Will you stay on your present course despite the pleadings of God’s Spirit and be one of those who go to eternal torment? Or will you be one of those that believe to the saving of their souls, and receive the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus? Oh, soul, be careful how you choose! This is the most important decision you will ever make. Will you choose life? Or will you choose death? It is your choice. Choose Christ! He is THE WAY, the truth, and the life. By Bill O’She
