Continuing my presentation of the ABCs of the Golden Decade of Music 1965-1974, where I am selecting the artists alphabetically and playing selections of their songs I liked or found influential from that golden decade. I am currently in the Bs playing songs from my favorite band/artist, The Beatles. The album of theirs I am now moving to for selections is ‘Abbey Road’, their eleventh studio album. The recording sessions for the album were the last in which all four Beatles participated. ‘Let It Be’ was actually the final album that the Beatles completed before the bands dissolution in April 1970, most of that album had been recorded before the Abbey Road sessions began. Although Abbey Road was an immediate commercial success and reached number one in the UK and US, it received mixed reviews, with some critics describing its music as inauthentic and found the production artificial. Many critics now view the album as the Beatles best and rank it as one of the greatest albums of all time, reinforced by it also being their best-selling album. The next selection off the album is Oh! Darling, a song composed by Paul McCartney but credited to Lennon–McCartney. According to Ian MacDonald, the backing vocals were exquisite, but sadly underplayed in the mix. Engineer Geoff Emerick recalled that McCartney sang while the backing track played over speakers, instead of headphones, because he wanted to feel as though he was singing to a live audience. https://youtube/watch?v=06zs7iISYi8
