Copied from a discussion I recently had with a lovely friend, and although long, I felt like sharing it: I dont think we are wired to know so many things in so many places. We were tribal beings with certain areas we knew intimately. If something happened in that area, we knew about it, but humans years ago didnt have to carry the burden of so much in their brains as we do now. I think its very VERY damaging to know too much. When I say this, Ive had people adamantly respond that if I choose not to know, its sticking my head in the sand. Dont I want to make a difference? If I dont know, somehow, they say, its my fault that bad things continue to happen (all of us who may choose at times NOT to know are included in that judgement). While I hear what they are saying, again, I go back to our psychological and neurological roots. We werent meant for this. Things have happened to open us to the entire world at once before we have had the chance to evolve to handle it well. Therefore, I think for our own wellness - our own sanity - we do more good perhaps by taking care and looking away from the ceaseless window of horrid events sometimes. Balance has never been so important.
